Mavrotragano tends to become red Assyrtiko on Santorini: Almost all important producers of the island highlight this difficulty pikilia, and Silver have done here one of the best vinification. Drink it with red meats but relatively lightly cooked with red sauce.

Too much alchool

The bottle tasted has a beautiful ruby red not very deep . Complex nose with hints of berry , cherry , herbs , wood and a strong minerality , feels the volcano . Present an annoying note pungent alcohol . Precise correspondence taste and smell. Return the perfumes described, but the medium-bodied wine enhances the presence of alcohol , which dominates a good minerality and excellent acidity thus making the wine unbalanced between the parties .
Grape with enormous potential

Mavrotragano is a rare and intriguing indigenous red variety of Santorini. The Maftrotragano reaches matured very quickly, almost at the end of August and in the past they used to make sweet wines, or put in some blend Vinsanto. It is highly productive and characterized very sensitive to drought. The berries are long and fleshy, with thick peel, crisp and bright color. When the grapes reach the ripeness can give wines their alcoholic strength easily reaches the 14 ° -15 ° vol with a very correct with no flare oxytita.
Mavrotragano is a very rich diversity both in color and in flavor potential. The aroma is durable. The taste is balanced, full and long epigefsi.

The 2009 Mavrotragano was aged in French oak for 18 months. It makes a statement for red wine on the island. This is a big boy and it takes no prisoners. I loved it, granting some rustic tendencies in acidity, tannin and earthiness. Powerful, pointed, intense and coupled with a gamey overlay, this crisp wine sure won’t say “Santorini” to many—but this red grape is producing interesting wines on the island. Not overly concentrated, it is still a powerful beast that will hold up well to food. It sure isn’t going to be a porch sipper. I can envision many great food matchups. It should hold well in the cellar, but it does have some things to prove there, despite my leaning up a bit for its potential. Drink 2014-2022. Βαθμολογία: 92/100
