The story of Flor de Caña began in 1890, when Alfredo Francisco Pellas Canessa, a young explorer from Italy, risked everything to travel to exotic Nicaragua. There he found the ideal place for the Flor de Caña distillery, at the foot of the San Cristóbal volcano, the highest and most active volcano in Nicaragua. The fertility of the surrounding areas, the enriched water, and the hot volcanic climate proved crucial for the distinctive character of Flor de Caña.
