"S" from Gaia may refer to the Syrah that provides the defining touch to the wine, however, the blend is dominated by Agiorgitiko from Nemea (70%). A relatively new arrival from Gaia Estate, with which it launched its most "exclusive" family of wines. "S" is a wine that is discussed and impresses, provided it is paired correctly at the table. Note: it was bottled unfiltered, so it is advisable to decant before serving.

Producer's Description: In 1978, Marquis Piero Antinori "made" history by introducing a new wine, the Tignanello vintage 1971. The historical aspect of the matter lies in the bold decision of the great Tuscan winemaker to blend a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, a foreign variety for the region, with the local Sangiovese. This move "downgraded" Tignanello from a wine with Geographical Indication (IGT) to a simple table wine. However, the wine was exceptional. So exceptional that the global trade named it Super Tuscan, even though it was a table wine with no right to reference its geographical origin. The story from then on took its course. Other winemakers in the region realized the unique opportunity for the qualitative upgrade of their area and imitated the Marquis. The quick and astute Italian legislator followed the trend by legislating accordingly. A new category, radiating and with high added value, was born! Super Tuscans... which for about forty years have been the driving force of an entire remarkable wine country, where the keyword is now pluralism. Jumping through time and space... Early 2007. Koutsou Nemea. GAIA, believing in the potential of the Nemea vineyard zone, which should not be limited to a single variety, creates GAIA S. A new wine that combines our beloved Agiorgitiko with the French Syrah. The "S" can be interpreted from whichever side you wish. "S" for Syrah but also "S" for Super Nemea. The grapes come from GAIA's privately owned vineyard in the semi-mountainous Koutsou of Nemea. GAIA S ages for 12 months in 225lt French oak barrels from the Nevers and Allier forests of Central France and then, after being bottled without any filtering or further processing, remains in the bottle for 5 months before being released to the market. The result is a wine with a particularly deep ruby-purple color, intense aromas of great purity and complexity, where the Agiorgitiko and Syrah complement each other with mutual respect. Its structure is robust, opulent, and generous. Under ideal storage conditions, at a temperature that never exceeds 12°-14°C, GAIA S will continue to evolve for over a decade towards an even more complex form. Remember to pour GAIA S into a wide decanter at least half an hour before enjoying it. The new dimension that will emerge before you will excite you...!
