Giannakohori is now a thing of the past and the story of this great Greek wine continues through the label Ktima Kyr-Giannis 2012. With a slightly altered blend as Syrah has now been added to the mix, the new red of the estate is a worthy successor to the historical label, with dense fruit, sturdy yet ripe tannins, and a long aftertaste.

Deep purplish color, as befits its age. The nose is initially shy, aeration can help in the development of aromas, the fruit is nonetheless present, dense, reminiscent of black and red cherries, along with plums. Complex aromas of spices and beautifully integrated oak can be found alongside. On the palate, the blend of varieties is extremely interesting. Merlot brings richness to the wine while Xinomavro provides structure. Excellent balance of fruit and tannins which, despite their intensity, are mature. The aftertaste is long and complex. One of those wines that can be enjoyed immediately but will evolve in the bottle for 5 to 10 years.
