Peychaud’s is one of the most famous and commercially successful bitters worldwide. However, its recipe is a secret known to very few. It was originally crafted as a tonic medicine by pharmacist Antoine Amedie Peychaud in the early 1800s in New Orleans, but it quickly gained many fans when they discovered how beautifully it paired with their whiskey or brandy. Its flavor is sweet with subtle notes of cherry, clove, and nutmeg and is the signature ingredient in the Sazerac cocktail.
