There are many times that local-rare varieties from different regions of the planet come to the forefront, especially nowadays, as we seek character and uniqueness in the wines we drink. Whether good or bad, uniqueness exists, but it is not always accompanied by attractive character. At this point, Apostolos Mountrichas wins the bet, using Mavrokoudoura as a vehicle and making a wine where uniqueness marries with a charming dimension that you cannot bypass.
The color visually magnetizes, perfectly clear and bright, with depth and purplish reflections that betray its youth. The nose is the heavy artillery of the wine and the first hint of the quality we will encounter. The intensity is dizzying, as are the ripe black and red fruits and the sweet spiced character reminiscent of vanilla, cinnamon, and clove. Diffused herbaceousness and hints of milk chocolate and butter caramel.
On the palate, the wine has volume without being a blockbuster, with the alcohol cleverly hidden and balanced with fruit and acidity. Fine-grained tannins, where the use of a small percentage of Syrah in the blend gives a slight push. The new French oak provides the wine with balanced oaky aromatic characteristics; the fruit is more acidic on the palate while the finish is long-lasting, evolving the initial fruity characteristics into aromatic hints of honey, beeswax, and roasted nuts.

Ready to drink, but will evolve for the next 3-5 years.
