This rum has been created from the ultra premium rum of the owner, in the fertile volcanic soil of Guatemala. It was crafted to celebrate the founding of the city of Zacapa. A blend of rum that has been distilled only from the sweetest virgin sugarcane honey and has aged for 6 to 23 years using the Sistema Solera process - barrels that have previously 'hosted' charred bourbon whiskey, Oloroso sherry, and the exceptional Pedro Ximenez wine. And because the rum ages more slowly at higher altitudes, it is a process that allows the color, aroma, and flavor to take all the time they need to mature in perfect harmony.

It has a smooth reddish-brown hue and emanates aromas of caramel, vanilla, cocoa, and butterscotch combined with flavor levels indicative of the different barrels in the solera, sherry notes from caramelized Brazilian nuts and roasted hazelnuts, and finally banana with butter caramel and dried pineapple. It has a complex, rich, and full-bodied character. It possesses excellent depth from dried fruits, nutmeg, leather, and smoke, with notes of coffee and vanilla, balanced by a hint of cinnamon and ginger in the finish. Truly a rum for discerning palates. The simplest way to enjoy Zacapa 23 is also the most delightful: in Zacapa's old fashioned glass, chilled with just one large ice cube. The ice cube should be large enough to melt imperceptibly. This will not only bring the rum back to the temperature at which it has aged but will also ensure that its distinctive flavor remains unaltered.
