Diaporos (Block 5) (of the Yianakohori vineyard) is a Xinomavro (but with about 8% Syrah), aged for 18 months in new French oak, as confirmed by the winery. It comes in at 14.3% alcohol. It wasn't too long ago that I first saw this, but some time in bottle has given it a chance to settle in just a bit, thus allowing its true potential to shine through. I thought originally that it looked like a brilliant Diaporos, perhaps the best ever. I'm increasingly sure of that now. If it is not quite as sexy as the wonderful 2007, it is better balanced. Full-bodied, powerful and focused, this is in fine form, showing exceptional fruit and finesse. It is always controlled. If it is intense in every aspect--power, tannins and fruit--every component keeps the others at the right level. It is still an unevolved puppy--hence, my original caution--that needs time and will develop far more. Its potential is easy to see now, but it is not fully realized. It should age beautifully--perhaps more or less indefinitely--but we'll try to check in every now and then. Plan on cellaring this for awhile. Even when it is approachable in a few more years, it will not have the complexity that extra time will grant it. That's what will make it truly special. Come back closer to 2025 for better results in that regard. Buy enough to sample periodically. You won't regret it.

, Ξινόμαυρο και Syrah του Μπουτάρη. Το ποίημα στην ετικέτα σε «στέλνει» σε άλλους συναισθηματικούς παραλλήλους, όπου απολαμβάνεις τα πολύπλοκα εκμαυλιστικά αρώματα ώριμων φρούτων του δάσους, μπαχαρικών, σοκολάτας, κανέλας και καπνού. Απλώς υπέροχο.

Δοκίμασα το Διάπορο του Κυρ-Γιάννη για πρώτη φορά στη ΔΕΤΡΟΠ σερβιρισμένο από τον Αντώνη Κιοσέογλου, τον οινολόγο του κτήματος. Επειδή το βρήκα απίστευτο, είπα να το ξαναπιώ στο Γαστροδρόμιο εν Ολύμπω, έχοντας πλήρη επίγνωση ότι θα το συνοδεύσω με αντάξια πιάτα.

Γιατί αυτό το ξινόμαυρο με 13% πρόσμιξη Syrah αξίζει τα καλύτερα! Βαθύ, γεμάτο, μεθυστικό, με αρώματα από σκούρα φρούτα και νότες από το δρύινο βαρέλι στο οποίο ξεκουράστηκε είκοσι μήνες για να συναντήσει το στόμα μας ανανεωμένο και ξεκούραστο, έτοιμο να το κατακτήσει. Σκούρο, απόλυτο χρώμα και πολύπλοκος, αινιγματικός χαρακτήρας με επίγευση που το κάνει αξέχαστο, αυτό το κρασί είναι μεγάλο.

Θέλει και αποζητά αντίστοιχα δυνατές γεύσεις από σχάρα μέχρι κυνήγι, αλλά δεν αποκλείω και το κατσικίσιο chevre που έτσι και αλλιώς μου αρέσει με τα ξινόμαυρα (και χωρίς!). Πιείτε το τη στιγμή που θα το αγοράσετε, καθώς φρόντισε το κτήμα να λειάνει τις ταννίνες του, ή προτιμήστε να το παλαιώσετε (αντε να δούμε ποιος περιμένει τόσο καιρό) για 10 - 12 χρόνια!
